Mae - My wife's family contains many Vane's from the Maryland area. This has been a hard family to tace because of the loss of records during the War of 1812 and the Civil War.
Our first Vane is Alen Vane born about 1779, married Sophia Ball Jones December 3, 1805 in Cambridge Dorchester Co, MD. Alen died August 13, 1834 in Cambridge. In this group is one William Vane, born September 30, 1827 in Cambridge and died about 1840 in Cambridge.
I don't think this William is the one you are looking for, but your William is very likely from this family. If you are interested please contact me at my e-mail address and I will foreward the little info I have on the early generations.
