My g-grandfather also a Courtland Van Dyke (1840-1914) Towanda/Wyalusing, PA. (Buried Wyalusing). Also a dead end so far. First Van Dyke in Towanda was John Van Dyke, born in Holland 1752, Married Martha Moore in 1777, enlisted Rev War 1777 or 1778. Had 5 children
William (1780-1863), Polly (1784-1860), John (1790-1864) Wilson (1795-?) and Davis (1797-1873)
William married Susan Daugherty and they had 5 children--George Hammond(1819-?) James(1816-1876) Matilda(1833-?) & Mary Ann (1845-?)
Polly never married.
John married Sarah (Sally) Wilson. No info on children.
Wilson married Clarissa Griswold. No info on children.
Davis married Elizabeth (Betsey) Watts. They had 15 children. I only know the 6th child was John David Van Dyke, (1827-1917)
The grandchildren of John Van Dyke (1752-1835) were born around your Courtland's time frame of 1812. Thirty years later (1840) my g-grandfather Courtland was born in Towanda (Bradford County, PA)
Have I confused you, struck a note of a tie-in somewhere, or what? I do have a little more information from family discussions which may or may not help.
