The first three generations, heading back, are from Steve Vandiver’s website. He collects data from many sources, to include other researchers, and adds them to his database: www.veerhuis.com, so that is where I found her as Oksana. The entire lineage, plus many maternal lines, can be found on his website, though I went to my own collection once I recognized a name in my own collection. He’s one of the best researchers on the family with an emphasis on the Long Island Family, if you write him he will let you know what sources he has. The line may have been contributed by another researcher.

Beginning with Cornelius Jansen Vanderveer b. 1750 Somerset Co., NJ d. 1815 Mercer Co., KY back to Cornelius Jansen “Dominicus” Vanderveer, the immigrant ancestor, I took from my own collection of data. Records include Wills, church records, land records, etc. There are differences between my deductions on the earliest generations and Steve’s, so I figured I should send my version of the outline. He shares the same immigrant ancestor with you.

For the generations in the Netherlands, there is a report created by a researcher in the Netherlands a few years back which has circulated rather well. I have only done some nominal research to verify the accuracy of this report and it appear valid enough to quote publicly as far back as I went.

For discussion purposes, the descendants of your immigrant ancestor are commonly referred to as the Long Island Family. There are two other proven progenitors of the surname, Jacop Van der Veer who settled his family at what is now Wilmington, Delaware - referred to as the Delaware Family. The third progenitor was Michael Paulszen van der Voort, whose descendants are found as variants of Vandervoort, Vanderford and Vandiver - thus the Vandervoort-Vandiver’s. This third progenitor was proven once and for all (my own line) by DNA testing and documents just last year.

My detail work on the Long Island Family has been limited to the first three generations.

There are a lot of great researcher for this family - Cornelia is actually probably the best. She and I also differ on many details and have argued privately and publicly on many occasions, but her overall handle on the history of the surname (all three families) far exceeds my own.
