Hello, My grandfather, Albert Vandiver was from Kansas. I don't know what year or exactly where. His Mother's first name was Oakum. She was English. I don't know his father's name. Albert Vandiver's real first name was Alfred but he chose to be called Albert. He served in the Spanish American war in Puerto Rico, met my future grandmother, Florence Adela Huslander (or Hulslander) there. She was a school teacher from Burlington, PA teaching in P.R. Albert worked as a Treasury Agent during Prohibition. He and Florence settled in Elmira, NY where they had 4 children: Alberta, b Nov. 12, 1909 (my mother); Roberta, Marion Francis, and Florence. My mother married Henry Kent Mitchell, Jr. and lived in Troy, PA till her death in 1994.

Albert and his wife worked as realtors in the Elmira area after he left the Treasury Dept. He died in the '50s. Florence died in the early '60s. Mother told us that a cousin of hers died in the Pearl Harbor attack on the Arizona. I do nor know his name.

My siblings and I are interested in learning more about our grandfather's family. I hope the little information I have provided will fit into somebody's family tree.

Flossy Powell
