Since I'm pretty new to all of this, most of you that have an interest probably already have this information about my Great, Great, Grandmother, Lucinda Southard Vandiver, but thought I'd share it just in case there is any interest. My brother sent me a copy of her Obituary from what I'm assuming was the Muskogee Daily Phoenix or the Muskogee Times Democrat Newspaper. It reads as follows: GRANDMA VANDIVER DIES AT 94 YEARS Lovable Character Lived Use- fully With the Cheer of Youth to the End. Mrs. Lucinda Vandiver, aged 94 years familiarly and lovingly called "Grandma" by hundreds of her Muskogee friends, passed peacefully away last night at the home of her son, John Vandiver, at 611 North N Street. Grandma Vandiver was born in Knoxville, TN in the year 1815. Her maiden name was Southard, and she came of the old time southern aristocracy. After her marriage to Mr. Vandiver, long since dead, and in the year 1840, she moved to a farm near Preston, Hickory county, MO residing there until 17 years ago, when she came to Muskogee to reside with her son who is now 60 years of age and the last of her four children. Mrs. Vandiver was a remarkable woman, splendly educated and with the sunniest of dispositions. Only a few days ago she prepared a meal with all the pleasures of a young girl. Her years left not the mark of old age upon her sweet temper and faculty of remembrance of the events of her life. Yesterday morning about ten o'clock Mrs. Vandiver complained of pains in her stomach, her first complaint for years, and shortly after was induced to take her bed. No funeral arrangements had been decided upon last night, but it is probable that the funeral will not take place until Sunday. I also have a copy of her death certificate if anyone is interested.
