While researching old Greenville Co., SC, estate records, I found this record of Manning Vandiver placing his daughter's inheritance (her deceased mother's share of her grandfather Williams' personal estate) in her control before her marriage: Greenville Co., SC, Estate Record: Harriett Vandiver, Apt 12, File 19 (SC Archives: E0081; GR#9) Received 15 Jan 1848 of my guardian Manning Vandiver $984.32 in full of my distributive share of the personal estate of my late grandfather John Williams dec'd which amount came to me in right of my deceased mother, Harriet Vandiver, formerly Harriet Williams late wife of the said Manning Vandiver and I do hereby release and discharge the said Manning Vandiver from any and all further liability to me on account of the said personal estate.
