Hello Michael, I was very excited to read your post....especially since it appears that your Issac Finlay was my Grandmother's brother and Julia Ann was their sister. My Grandmother was Minnie Isobel VanDine. In 1889, when their mother, Margaret Thompson, died at the age of 42, it seems that Julia Ann and Issac Finaly (my Grandmother and Mother always referred to him as Uncle Finn!)lived with many different family members. Minnie Isobel (She called herself Minnie Belle) was just under two years old when her mother died and was put up for adoption. She was adopted and was raised by by Milton H. and Margaret (Doyle) Elliott or Van Buren, Grant County, IN. I have a lot of information to share with you. However, I am currently traveling and will be gone for two weeks. I would like very much to correspond with you regarding the VanDines, especially more information on Issac Finlay, and your family. Am especially curious to know where you live. Are you by chance in Indiana? I live in California, but come back to Indiana about once a year to do family research and visit the family graves. My parents, grandparents, greatgrandparents, etc., etc., on both sides of my family are all buried in Indiana. By the way, Minnie did marry Charles Allen Westfall, and they had 4 daughters, all of who I was very close with. They were: Mary Margaret, Virginia Helen (her nickname was "Bob" and everyone called her that...I called her "Aunt Bob"), Shirley Isobel, and Barbara Jeanne (my mother). It's nice to find that I have a new cousin. Welcome to my family! While I am gone, you may respond to me off line at my email address: bandbinns@aol.com. Thank you for contacting me. I look forward to hearing from you. I will try to get back to you as soon as I can when I return. Best regards, Sherry (Jones) Ryan San Diego Notify Administrator about this message?
