I recently discovered that the name of the great-grandfather I am looking for information on is actually Walter Vanderwater (or Vandewater) - not George as we had thought. Walter was born about 1859. He could have been born in Hastings, Ontario, Canada but we are not sure. One family member believes Walter had two brothers, one of whom may have been named William. The family member also heard stories that Walter ran off with the circus at some point. Basically, I'm trying to find out who Walter's mother and father were.

Walter was married to Mary Clancey (aka Clancy)who was born about 1861 in Ireland. Walter and Mary had 7 children: Walter (died as an infant)(DOB 1889), George (1891), Nellie (1881), Harry (1882), Mary (1884), Martha (1886),and Francis Earl(aka Earl Francis)(1893). The family lived for awhile in Auburn, NY. Unfortunately, in about 1896, Walter abandoned his family and took off with a cook by the name of Mary Lucie - maybe they joined the circus... (Mary Clancey later divorced him and remarried.)

Any information you can provide with regard to Walter Vanderwater (Vandewater) would be much appreciated.
