Terri, it appears we are some sort of distant cousins. Your gggrandmother Clarinda was a sister to my gggrandfather Abraham. Perhaps your research has since made some sense of the Vandevanter family. I hope so, it’s still very confusing to me. Here’s what I feel reasonably certain of so far:

I have further information on descendents of Ethell McIntyre (my ggrandmother) and her sister and half-brother and half-sisters. Also place of birth and dates and places of death on many of the above which I’ll be glad to share. Also have Iowa census info for the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 years; Idaho and Washington info for 1900, 1910, and 1920. Oregon info is sorely lacking although the clan clearly moved through Oregon.
It appears that the Vandevanters were an example of clan migration, moving from Ohio, to Illinois and Indiana, to Iowa, to Oregon, and to Idaho and Washington with perhaps cousins moving along with parents, brothers, aunts and uncles. In your post you cite Guthrie co. Iowa history on John Vandevanter and his son Peter. Note that John’s son Peter is not the same Peter who settled in Victory township where we also find Israel Vandevanter in 1880. Hope to hear from you or anyone else to share info.
