Thank you for your reply. I have order the lease-deed. That might shed some light. I did not know he ever lived in VA so this has been a big help.

How do we know he died in 1837?

The DAR papers that I have say he enlisted from Franklin District SC 7 Mar 1779

In the application for a War of 1812 filed by James McGraw's son-in-law Vanderviers had a large part in thier lives, but nothing comes right out and says there were marriages between the McGraws and Vanderviers--I will just continue to collect evidence and eventually I will prove it.
