Dorothy,
Do you have a Jacob born about 1793 and sister Catherine born about 1804? Mine have shortened the name to Slice (might not be Vander Sluyse) by 1850, hoping to see if they are from this clan. She marries a Michael Miller from PA. They end up in Indiana in the 1840s or before. (including Jacob) The census says they are from MD, but I suspect a blurred state line around the time. I have seen some information of this Miller line that might indiate origins in MD then a move to Berks County.
