I posted this to the Sassaman mailing list this morning and thought the Vanderslice GenForum list might like a copy. Back in 1994 I picked up a few pages of a report done by Mr. and Mrs. Dale W. Collins; 17 Hearthstone Drive; Penn Hills, PA 15235, at the Berks County Historical Society. Included in the pages is the following information: Henry (Henry Sr.) and Catherine (Sassamanhausen) Vanderslice children: 1) Anthony Vanderslice (b. June 4, 1753 d. Feb. 4, 1797) married Elizabeth, was a private in American Revolution (DAR Index, Vol. II) 2) Henry Vanderslice Jr. (b. April 17, 1755 d. Feb. 12, 1825) married Ann, was also a private in the Revolution (DAR Index, Vol. 1) 3) Jacob Vanderslice (b. Feb. 7, 1757 d. Jan. 10, 1815) married Mary Berge 4) Daniel Vanderslice (b. Feb. 17, 1759 d. Dec. 20, 1812) married Margaret Clemens 5) Catherine Vanderslice (b. Nov. 15, 1761) 6) Sophia Vanderslice (b. Mar. 10, 1764 d. Aug. 13, 1829) married Jacob Settle 7) Anna Margaret Vanderslice (b. Jan. 24 1767 d. Dec. 3, 1846) married Michael Seitzinger (b. Sept. 29, 1763 d. Sept. 18, 1838) 8) John Vanderslice (b. March 31, 1770 in Exeter Twp., Berks Co., PA d. March 16, 1846), married Catherine Christian on May 27, 1792. 9) George Washington Vanderslice (b. Oct 8, 1771 d. Feb. 22, 1842) married 2nd, in 1806, to Janet Roberts 10. Joseph Vanderslice (b. Jan. 28, 1776) Henry Vanderslice Sr. received a commission of Sheriff of Berks County, PA on Oct. 5, 1775. In this capacity, he read The Declaration of Independence in the public square of Reading on July 8, 1776, in response to an order of Congress. Henry Vanderslice Sr. did war service during the Revolution as a Wagoneer (DAR Patriot Index, Vol. 1) References: "Vanderslice and Allied Families" by Howard Vanderslice Shirley L. Anna Elizabeth Homrighausen on March 7, or May 7, 1795 3) George Sassmannhausen (b. about 1727 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks County, PA) married Barbara. 4) Henry Sassmannhausen (b. about 1729 in Maxatawny Twp, Berks County, PA d. March 15, 1783 [in NC] ) married Elizabeth 5) Julianna Sassmannshausen (b. about 1731 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks County, PA married Bernhard Schneider 6) Catherine Sassmannshausen (b. April 14, 1732 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks County, PA d. Aug. 20, 1809) married Henry Vanderslice on Oct. 23, 1750 7) Dorothea Sassmannshause (b. Dec. 8, 1737 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks County, PA) married Jacob Herber 8) Sophia Sassmannshausen (b. about 1746 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks County, PA d. April 18, 1808) married on August 3, 1756 to Christian Richstein. 9) Gertrude Sassmannshause (b. about 1741 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks County, PA) [I found additional on Gertrude. She was born Maria Gertraut on April 4, 1756 and died June 7, 1828. She married Johannes Siegfried and is buried in the Siegfried Family Cemetery near Topton, Berks County, PA] 10. Jacob Sassamannshausen (b. about 1746 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks County, PA d. April 28, 1789) married on Nov. 19, 1765 to Catherine Pearson. Jacob was a Pvt., PA in the Revolution (DAR Patriot Index Vol. 1) [Jacob and Catherine moved to Bucks County, PA] Jost Henrich Sassmannshausen was the son of Johan Peter Sassmannshausen and Anna Elizabeth Weber, of Germany. Jost Henrich was born 1696 in Ruppershausen, Wittgenstein, Wesphalie, Nordrhein, Germany. Christened, Jubilate Sontag 1696, Evangelical Reformed Church, Feudingen, Wittgenstein, Germany. He married Sept. 17, 1717 at the same church to Anna Catharina Strach, d/o Johannes Strach. Anna Catherine was born Amtshausen, Wittgenstein, Germany. Henry and Catherine both died in Maxatawny, Berks Co., PA. Another wife, Petronella, is mentioned in a 1770s deed registered in Berks County between Jost Heinrich Sassmanshausen and his son Henry.
