Jim and Tara,

I have been researching the Vanderslice family for 7 1/2 years. Have almost 2500 names. The original spelling was Vandersluyse. Reynier who was the first to come to the US was a Baron in Holland. He had been adopted by a family as a small child. They found him alone on a beach near their home. Since he was unable to give them any information, they gave him the last name of Vandersluyse, which means Of The Water. Have lots more info if you would like it.
