Solemn Requiem high Mass was offered for Julias VANDERSCHUERE, 83, this morning (Thursday) in Visitation Catholic Church at Verboort.
The Very Rev. Fr. William R. KILLION, his pastor, was the celebrant with Rev. Fr. William DELPLANCHE of St. Edwards Church of North Plains serving as deacon and Rev. Fr. Joseph DANEL of the Jesuit high school at Beaverton serving as sub deacon.
He died Sunday afternoon at the Quaring's Nursing Home in Hillsboro, where he has been a guest since January of this year.
Julias VANDERSCHUERE was born Nov. 5, 1879, at Tielt, Belgium, the only child of Charles and Charlotte PHARASYN VANDERSCHUERE.He received his education in Belgium and fulfilled his apprenticeship as a baker there.On Jan. 30, 1901 he was married to Barbara Louisa PATERNOSTER at Schaerbeck, Belgium, and three years later in 1904 came to teh United States, coming directly to Portland, where he was employed as a teamster.One year later he brought his wife and family to the Untied States and while on their way to Oregon his oldest son Charles was killed in a train accident.
Throughout most of his lifetime, Mr. VANDERSCHUERE farmed, having land in Columbia, Clackamas and Multnomah counties before coming to tWashington county in 1927 where he farmed near Hillsboro until his retirement in 1945 when he moved to Cornelius and later to Hillsboro.Mrs. VANDERSCHUERE died June 28, 1947.
Mr. VANDERSCHUERE has been in failing health for the past 2 years and has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Martin J. VANDERZANDEN of Rt. 2, Forest Grove.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters, Albert F. of Hillsboro, Victor A. of Cornelius, Alphons J. of Cornelius and Charles H. of Seattle.Mrs. Jacob (Alice) KUTSCH of Albany, Mrs. Lester (Gabriella) STOREY of Forest Grove, Mrs. Martin J. (Mary) VANDERZANDEN of Forest Grove.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held Wednesday evening in the chapel of Prickett's Mortuary of Forest Grove.Committal prayers were follwed by vault interment in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Portland, with Floiran PETERS, Raymond and Robert FRITZ, Howard VANDERZANDEN, Richard and Ronald VANDERSCHUERE, Mr. VANDERSCHUERE's grandsons, serving as his casket bearers.
