A Remarkable Record
Four Sisters Mothers of 63 Children
Thirty Pairs of Twins Have Been Born.
According to statements made this Morning by Sam L.Miles. A well known Springfield Character, The State of Kentucky is known for more things than being known as ---? the Ground,it's Family and Neighborhood Feuds and its Celebrated Bourbon Whisky andThoroughbred Horses.
Miles ,A Religious enthusiast knows the bible by heart from Genesis to Revelation and almost any hour during the warm sunshfuy days can be seen on the city lot, where for several years it has been his custom and delight to Deliver Religious Barangues in the presence of a crowd of interested farmers who are exhorted to "Flee the wrath to come"
While seated around a comfortable stove this morning some one of the company mentioned the fact of the recent birth of triplets to Mr.and Mar. Alexander of Nichols Junction an account of which was published in the Leader. This brought to the memory of the street Preacher the surprising the wonderful-not to say unprecedented and rapid-increase in the family of his father and mother, The latter of whom now lies buried in the old grave yard at the Head of Clear Creek in this County, and the former,Elijah Miles being still alive at the patriarchal age of 103 years and liveing in Knox county Kentucky.
After remarking that if President Roosevelt would make a Journey to --?--little--? of the Miles family he would likely abandon his race-suicide ideas and return to his duties at the Nation's Capital'
Sam Miles related in substance the following family History.
My Father is Elijah Miles a Kentuckian and Farmer,He married my Mother whose maiden name was Rebbecca Blatten, also a native of Kentucky. A good many years ago my parents came to Green county and located at the Head of Clear Creek here they lived until mother died several years afterwards, Father then went back to Kentucky where he soon married a young woman who bore him two sons after he had passed his eighty-Fourth year. He still lives with his lawt wife near Barborgville,Knox county,Kentucky.
My four sisters, who also live near Barbourgville have each been pleased with several sets of twins. Nearly of whom were sons, and the ---? of whom are still liveing and reside in Knox county.
My elder sister .Mrs Louisa Vanderpool, wife of Marion Vanderpool, is the mother of sixteen pairs of twins giving her a total of thirty-Three children haveing also given birth to one girl.
My next sister Mrs.Millie Lay the wife of Thomas Lay,has had eight pairs of twins and in all seventeen children at twins births.
Another sister Sarah Matlock, widow of Jackson Matlock, has four pairs of twins or eight children in all while my fourth sister Mrs,Nancy Pope the wife of James Pope has two pairs and a total of five this gives the four girls a total of Sixty-Three children or an average of sixteen each, and if any family can show a better record in Carrying out the scriptural injunction to Multiply and replenish the Earth "I would like to know the color of their Hair.
Mr.Miles is now 63 years of age Healthy and Vigorous and Proud of His Family record and Invites any one who may be inclined to doubt his statement of Communicate with any of the above named parties who will verify what he says. In fact there are those in Green County who will Corroborate what has been related.
