Rensselaer County NY Deed Book 4, p. 276, records that on February 28, 1800, in Pittstown, Rensselaer County, Henry Vanderhoof and his wife Sarah sold to Edward Ryan 154 acres of land in Pittstown for $2,500 (New York currency). Henry Vanderhoof appeared in person on March 7, 1800, before Judge Jonathan Brown of Rensselaer County, and the deed was recorded.
On October 28, 1806, Sarah Vanderhoof personally appeared before "John Froughton [?] one of the the judges of the Court of Common pleas in & for the County of Rensselaer, the widow and relict of the late Henry Vanderhoof deceased who acknowledged that she signed by making her mark and sealed the within Indenture by which she has conveyed all her right title and interest of dower to the within described."
It is widely reported that Henry Vanderhoof/Vanderhoff/Vanderhoef died in September 1797. Apparently that date is incorrect. He died between March 7, 1800, and October 28, 1806 - probably closer to 1806 than 1800.
There are conflicting hypotheses about the identity of Henry's wife, Sarah. Some claim she was Sarah Doremus. Some claim she was Sarah Francisco. Some have it both ways and claim Henry first married Sarah Doremus and later Sarah Francisco. This land record shows that whoever Sarah was, she was still living on October 28, 1806.
