Vanderhoof Family Genealogy Forum

Hello all. I am trying to find information about my grandfather. He had a very secretive past since he was in some sort of Counter Intel Unit in WWII. His name is Richard Lester Vanderhoff. He was born in New Jersey I think. He was born in April 1912. I think on the 15th...he made a joke once that when he was born he hit the ground so hard that the titanic sank...haha. Anyway, He married a woman named Betty Cathey who had a brother named Charles. I think she died around 1973. I also know that my grandfather went to college in Pennsylvania. I want to say he had a brother who was in the Navy also. My G-Grandmother said that our last name might have been spelled Vanderhoof. She also said that he grew up on a farm or ranch somewhere in NJ. I know it seems like I don't have alot of information and that because I don't. My grandfather never talked about his past until about the time he past in 1995. I do know that he was in the US Army and was part of the Counter Inteligence Corps. He did all sorts of secret stuff during the war. When he was released from the Army he told my grandmother he would be home around a certain time and didn't show up for a year later. He couldn't explain why. We actually aren't even sure about his name. He had 3 social security numbers also so it was hard to track anything. I have submitted for his military records through the Freedom of Information Act, and they denied my request. He moved down to Florida after the Military. Anyway, I just thought that you might have an idea about something. His name was Richard Lester Vanderhoff...His son(my father) is Richard William Vanderhoff, and I have a brother who is Richard Lester William Vanderhoff. Thanks
