I'm curious to know more about your Lucretia. There are quite a few unusual names in this line of Vanderhoofs that suggest quite strongly to me that they came from NJ.
The children I have down for Garret are John (b. abt. 1770-1775), Mary (b. 1785) and Jacob.I believe these three moved to Ontario County, NY.The 1810 census for Phelps also shows a Martin and a Paul Vanderhoof. Not sure if or how those two are related, but it's a fair guess they might be.
I wonder if your Lucretia was a sibling of this gang, or perhaps a cousin.
John's children, per his 1833 will, were Garret, Andrew, Jacob, John, Rachel, William Wilson, Lucretia, and Allen Canada.I also saw a listing of a tombstone for a Calvin, son of John and Sarah, who died young in Phelps in 1824.He would have been the youngest.
Another source told me that Garret had married a Rachel Cole.As John's eldest daughter was named Rachel, this could be a match.
Do any of these names fit in with what you know about the NJ Vanderhoofs?
