Kim,

The Abraham that married Phoebe Hufty (Hofte?) was the son of the Abraham that married Maritje/Maria Van Sant/Zandt.

Abraham Vandegrift married Phoebe Hufty, 1749, August (no day). Source: PA Vital Records, Vol. 1, Pennsylvania Marriage Licenses, Issued by Governor James Hamilton, 1748-1752.

Abraham Vandegrift married Maria ?, 17 Oct 1716, Abington Presbyterian Church, Montgomery Co., PA. Source: PA Vital Records. ( I can't find the page right now.)

It is assumed that Abraham married Maria/Marritje Van Sant mostly because of the names of their children, I think. They named a son, Garrett, that is a name going far back in the Van Zandt line. Also, the proximity of the families and the fact that a lot of Vandegrifts, Vandergriffs, etc., married a lot of Van Sants seems to lead to the probability of their marriage.

This is my family line and I have researched it a lot, but, I have found no absolute proof that Maria's last name is Van Sant.

Jane
