I posted this message on the Vandergriff message board:
Am looking for information on Joseph Duncan who married Rebecca Vandergrift/Vandergriff. One source (The Trail Blazers by Martha Alice Hamot) shows their children as: Mary m John P Jones; Jessie m Nancy Wilmer; Thomas never married; and Martha Ann m William Pigg.
The book goes on to say: "Joseph went to Pendleton Co, NC, where he married married Rebecca Vandergrift, who descended from the New York Vandergrift's. After Rebecca's death he married Susie Garrett." No dates are given for any birthdates, their marriage or Rebecca's death. (There is not a Pendleton Co, NC, but did find a City of Pendleton in Northhampton Co, NC.)
In 1811 Joseph bought land in Rutherford Co, TN, in 1815 in Smith County, TN, and again in 1825 on Hickman Creek in Smith County.
I have found a 1799 marriage in Grainger Co, TN, between Rebecka Vandergriff and Joseph Dunkin, but do not know if these are the same people.
Does anyone have any information on these people?
