Massachusetts Vanderford family

I am researching this Vanderford family: Samuel G. Vanderford, b. prob. Mass, ca. 1788.. He married Mary Polly Carter b. Lunenburg, Mass., 16 March, 1794, dau. of Frederick & Phebe (Snow) Carter); I do not know what happened to him, but I know his wife Mary died in Lunenburg, Mass. of palsy, 8 May, 1851 (aged about 60). They had at least two sons, Frederick Carter Vanderford (b. Cavendish, Vt. 7 Nov., 1822, who moved to Fitchburg, Mass); and James S. Vanderford, b. Cavendish, Vt. 1820), who was known as "The Old Fifer" and lived at 73 Pacific St. in Fitchburg where he d. 17 Jan., 1895, age 74 years 9 months, 10 days. This family is a mystery to me, as I do the CAVENDISH, Vermont in Windsor County History project, and we are trying to find out more about the Vanderford group. Perhaps Samuel G. Vanderford was related to the Capt. Benj. Vanderford of Salem, Mass. whose silhouette was in the 2009 issue of Antiques and Fine Arts Magazine. Does anyone know any more about these "Salem" Vanderfords. Thanks. Linda.
