As a child in the mid sixties I used to fish the lakes of Moravian Cemetary and wander the cemetary and properties of Pouch Camp and HighRock Park admiring the monuments and history of early Staten Island settlers. I remember the impressive arched entry of the Vanderbilt Family burial ground and remember the story of a young woman who suffered a fatal accident at the entry in 1967. Was this woman a descendant of the Vanderbilts? Also does anyone have any history on the Elliot Fitch Shepard Family who are also interred on the Vanderbilt Family grounds?
