Hi,
Oh.. thank you for that information, it gave me chills, how exciting.
I am the owner of the Northport House that Mary and Joseph Vanderbilt lived in, and have been since 1992, I am actually getting ready to sell by the fall, It is time for me to move on. We still have a waterview here, from the high points and in the winter.
The old deeds that I located in the county (which I have in my possesion) state that Mary Purchased this place (land, I think only), but not certain) in 1895, then sold in 1898. Strange, I thought being only Mary is the owner, I am taking a guess that they had the house built (A dutch colonial) due to the amount it was purchased for then sold (with two mortgages being held)

It is listed here in Northport Village Historical Society as the Vanderbilt/Baumhaufer House.
The name Vanderbilt is well known , just curious are these related to the famous Vanderbilt family that we all know of.
I noticed the name cornelious being used, I have read about the Commodore , I am not sure if this is the same family.
any further information would be welcome, again I am selling the house in the fall, and would like as much history as I can get.
