Hi, Oh.. thank you for that information, it gave me chills, how exciting. I am the owner of the Northport House that Mary and Joseph Vanderbilt lived in, and have been since 1992, I am actually getting ready to sell by the fall, It is time for me to move on. We still have a waterview here, from the high points and in the winter. The old deeds that I located in the county (which I have in my possesion) state that Mary Purchased this place (land, I think only), but not certain) in 1895, then sold in 1898. Strange, I thought being only Mary is the owner, I am taking a guess that they had the house built (A dutch colonial) due to the amount it was purchased for then sold (with two mortgages being held) I have pictures of it from back then if you would like to see them, send me your email. It is listed here in Northport Village Historical Society as the Vanderbilt/Baumhaufer House. The name Vanderbilt is well known , just curious are these related to the famous Vanderbilt family that we all know of. I noticed the name cornelious being used, I have read about the Commodore , I am not sure if this is the same family. any further information would be welcome, again I am selling the house in the fall, and would like as much history as I can get. thanks again Donna Notify Administrator about this message?
