I would appreciate hearing from VANDENBERGs of any spelling who have an early 1800's connection to NJ, or anytime in PA or OH. Gershom (Goosen) VAN DEN BERG was in Somerset Co, NJ, and later, at least in 1774, in Sussex Co, NJ, along with Harmanus VAN DEN BERG, whom I believe was his cousin. There appears to be no record of Harmanus other than the tax list of 1774 in Sussex Co, but he may have married and had children. Could they be the VANDENBERGS in Luzerne Co, PA? Many families migrated from Sussex and Warren Cos, NJ to the eastern counties of PA. Gershom had a bit of wanderlust and kept going west ... Washington and Mercer Cos, PA, and Trumbull Co, OH. Some of his children and grandchildren were at one time in Mercer Co, PA and Trumbull, OH - Jane, Margaret, Gysbert and Garret. Another of the children, David, went to Muskingum Co, OH, as did at least one grandson, Peter. Other grandchildren went to Licking Co, OH, and possibly Knox Co, OH. Having found 40+ variations in the spelling of the name makes it difficult to try to locate any of these families. I would appreciate hearing from anyone in these 3 states that have a surname even remotely close! Sandy Read sandra.read@verizon.net Notify Administrator about this message?
