While my connection to Sam Snead is through a recent generation, my grandmother Wynona Keyser Vance of Lincoln Co Wv, though you folks might like to see. It has been almost a year since posting and I hope everyone is doing well. Trust that this post may clear up some questions outstanding. I believe that I have reconciled most of the conflicting postings to boards and family trees concerning this topic. I find the Roots Web most helpful in my internet approach to genealogy, as I gather info from others looking at sources. I would like to give thanks to M. Herzog for her tree at Roots Web which connects the great golfer Sam Snead to Richard Snead that moved to Bath County about 1794. There have been two main questions presented by others concerning Keziah Snead. First, was the mother of Keziah Snead, Jane Jackson or Jane Winn. Working under the assumption that there was only one marriage of a John Snead to a Jane Jackson; "POST 339 2-29-2000" on the Snead forum, claims that John and Jane Snead receivied 300 acres from her father John Jackson in 1734. Obviously, this could not be the John Snead that was born about 1735, the father of Keziah. This should correct any trees that show Keziah's mother as Jane Jackson. Most trees show Jane Winn as the mother of Keziah. Secondly, it needed to be determined if Keziah was the husband of Revolutionary William Keyser. I think she was. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=longshot_1967&id=I551 On the site above, you will find the close relationship between the children of William Keyser and Richard Snead, brother to Keziah. Keziah Snead must have been the link between the two families. M. Herzog on roots web has definite dates of birth, death and marriage of Keziah to a William Harris, and the source is not presented. Others have speculated that William Harris was a second marriage after 1801. The dates presented by M. Herzog for Keziah do not agree exactly with dates given by others, so it would be most interesting to try and determine correct dates for Keziah. Also it appears that Williams father was William H and perhaps they had the same middle name of Harrison or Harris, as many postings reflect William, husband to Keziah as William Harris Keyser. Any help from this forum is most appreciated. All said, with the above circumstanial evidence, I am happy to put the great golfer Sam Snead into my tree, as I am a decsendent of William Keyser and Keziah Snead, through John Jack, Ephraim, Albert Gallington, and Wynona Keser Vance of Lincoln County WV. Thanks to all. Notify Administrator about this message?
