I am researching a Martha Orear who married William Vance in 1843 in Chatham, Georgia.Family knowledge is that she was a full blood Cherokee. She probably died in childbirth or shortly after in 1851.Some have thought her Father may have been Robert O'Rear/ORear/Orear.She has also been found on 1850 census as Matilda Vance. On 1860 census, her daughter, Beersheba Vance, age 9, is living with David and Beersheba Jones family. Also in that family is an Eliza Orare, age 15.Next door is the Calvin Orare[Orear] family with wife Eda and children Elizabeth, Mahala, Robert and Beersheba. We know these families are all related, but so far, do not know exactly how.
I have thought it possible that John Vance may be a brother to my William Vance and that they may have married sisters. It is interesting that your research indicates that John Vance was part Indian.Where did you find this information?I have been going on the assumption that the Indian heritage came from the Orear's and not the Vance's due to family knowledge passed down.
Do you have an estimated birthdate for Mahalia Orear, daughter of Daniel Orear and Susan Gooch and wife of John Vance?
I'd like to compare information as the lines you are researching overlap with mine.Thank you, Judy
