Hi Tracy, Well, given that I'm sure you've looked at all the online records I only see three ways you can make progress: 1) is to have an enormous stroke of luck, like founding some old papers in the attic! 2) maybe if you can afford to spend time in the places he lived in researching you might find some traces that aren't online; 3) is the DNA test. That won't tell you any names like Lewis Homer' parents; but it will at least attach you to one or other segment of the Vance family. I'm sure you've already seen the results at http://www.vancegenealogy.com/index.php. They seem to me to make sense of an otherwise very confusing picture. The test is quite harmless and painless - unfortunately you need a male Vance "volunteer" so if your male relatives are unwilling you may have to resort to violence or blackmail (Bad joke, sorry!). By the way, is he Homer L, or Lewis H? Is there a definite answer to that? Good luck, Do keep in touch. Jamie, Email jvans (at) dsl.pipex.com Notify Administrator about this message?
