Dear Jeffrey:
first let me say "Great Job"
second, here is another layer to the Vance group in that time frame in the area

My line is Patrick Vance and Elizabeth McCray and this is what we know so far,
Based upon the surname frequency found in BerkeleyCo. linked by recorded documents to our Patrick VANCE ....names such as PARK, SNODGRASS, CAMPBELL, ALLISON, McCREERY/McCREARY (which the preparer believes POSSIBLY morphs into McCRAY), and others....leads the preparer to consider Counties Donegal, Antrim, and Derry (Londonderry), one of these as being the origin of our VANCEs, but substantive links have yet to be firm up on this theory. Further, there is a Rev. Patrick VANCE documented as being in Burt, County Donegal in 1734-35.

At this point the following is known of our Patrick VANCE, Sr.:

14th Dec 1773: In present day Berkeley Co., WV, Patrick VANCE, along with John EWING and John WRIGHT, is recorded as being a witness of a land transaction (2-1/2 acres for 3 pounds Pennsylvania currency) between Hugh MILLER, Jr. (seller) and (buyers) Hugh VANCE, William PATTERSON, Hugh LYLE, Hugh MILLER, Jr., David MILLER, John SNODGRASS, Jr., John PARK, Dugall CAMPBELL, Samuel PARK, Mathew DUNCAN, Joseph MECAI, and Thomas KENNEDY.

1777: In present day Berkeley Co., WV, Pat. VANCE mentioned as a one of the buyers at the estate sale of Mathew ALISON.

7th Oct 1782: In present day Berkeley Co., WV, "Partick" (Patrick) VANCE is mentioned as being one of the buyers at the sale of the Samuel Hair estate. Also mentioned was the father of Patrick's daughter-in-law, Rebecca HINTON, James HINTON.

July 1784 : In present day Berkeley Co., WV, Patrick VANCE witnesses the will of Stephen BARNS. Other witnesses were: Thomas CAMPBELL, John SMITH, and James McCRAY, Patrick VANCE's brother-in-law.

1800: Patrick VANCE, Sr. appears within Fayette Co., KY tax list.
