Except for Irish "sept arms", which, according to MacLysaght, the first Chief Herald of Ireland, belong to the entire family, or sept, although not everyone agrees with this ruling, and I think that the Vance arms referred to earlier do not fall into this class.
The justification for this is that the Irish did not follow the rule of primogeniture, and few lineages from the original primogentors are known with certainty, anyway.
