The Sun of New York City on 18 Jan 1910, p. 4, reported the death of former New Jersey Governor George T. WERTS, of pneumonia, yesterday at his home, 275 Union street, Jersey City, NJ. He was born in Hackettatown, NJ, 24 Mar 1846. His father was Peter WERTS and his mother was a sister of Jacob VANATTA, once Attorney General of NJ. At the age of 17 he began the study of law in his uncle Jacob VANATTA's law office in Morristown. He was a Democratic party leader and held many positions [which are detailed in the article]. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mary Evelyn WERTS and Hattie WERTS.
