Found two Van Amber's in my research: Joseph Van Amber served in NY State troops- Wessenfein Reg., Dodge Company ...also, Matt'w Van Amber, private served in Van Veghton's Regiment, Woodworth's company. Possibly you are not looking early enough! We are researching, William bc 1750, listed as Ambden and even Ambrose in New Jersey but had upstate NY connections during Revolution, also his son Moses using Anden. Tradition is that the name was originally a "Van". Am interested in learning more about Van Amber's origins. Thank you.
