Hermanus Vanalstyne and his son-in-law, John Vandenburgh were arrested by the committee of public safety for Albany on charges related to the disappearance of two militia officers that were sent to arrest Herman's eldest son, Joachim. An eye witness said that while the two men were engaged in conversation with Herman, Joachim and John Vandenburgh showed up with armed tories who marched the two militia men away, never to be seen again. Both Hermanus and his son-in-law were imprisoned in Massachusetts. Joachim joined Butler's Rangers and changed his name to help protect his family. After the war the family was living at Brunswick near Troy, New York. In 1787 John Vandenburgh, his wife Eva Van Alstyne and their children moved to Thorold Township near Niagara Falls, Ontario. Eva's youngest brother, Hermanus came with them and settled in the same area. Eventually Hermanus senior was declared a loyalist and his children, then living in Ontario made land claims based on this. I don't have all of the children accounted for but I'm just starting to investigate their descendants in Ontario.
