I too am interested in this family name and have a fair amount of background material. The Valliere family I am researching married into the Cowan family at the time of the Rebellion 1837 and the Cowans were fur traiders who had married native women. The Cowans brothers (American) were captured as children and brought up by the natives during the indian wars. One ended up as a famous trader and interpreter at Matchedash Bay near Penetanguishene about 1800.He later died when the "Speedy" sank during a storm in Lake Ontario on the way to a murder trial with the magistrate, the accused and the witnesses.I have a date base of Valliere Vallier Vallieres Valier etc events assembled from Vital Statistics which might be of help.If your George was descended from this family, than the story could be true. This is a very interesting family dating back to 1666 when Pierre Valiere, a soldier arrived in Quebec.
