Eastern Shore Valiants in my family?

I'm named after my uncle, William Valiant Phillips. He told me once
(he is dead now) that the Valiants were fishermen (?) on the Eastern
Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. I think he told me that his grandfather (?)
was a Valiant and taught him how to tie a bowline real quick. His mother's
name was O'Connor. Any records of a Valiant marrying a Phillips or an
O'Connor? Other family names in that part of the tree are Hudgins and
Thompson. I'd be very grateful for any information in this direction. I've
always wondered about the Valiants.
Tony Phillips (Anthony William Valiant)
