Steve & Connee, Mr. Brumbley erroneously believed that the wife of John Fletcher Valiant was Rebecca Rippy. The wife of John Fletcher Valiant, master shoemaker and local preacher, was Catherine Riley. She died 23 July 1860 at age 73 in Baltimore City (funeral at Broadway M. E. Church); she was enumerated with her husband "John Vailant" & family in the 1860 US Census, Balt. City, Ward 3, #2807. According to records at the Lovely Lane Museum in Baltimore, Rev. John Valiant was a dissenter who was expelled from the M. E. Church and founded the M. P. Church; later he was completely reinstated in the M. E. Church. The Broadway Station Church Register mentions that John Valiant, "Local Preacher", died 22 Jan 1869; he was living at 295 E. Pratt St. Under "Remarks" someone with the initials R.W.B. wrote: "At a ripe old age (87 years) this worthy disciple 'fell on sleep'." hope this helps, Matt Redman Notify Administrator about this message?
