I just finished reading two volumes of a book called "Before Lewis and Clark" written by Nasatir, from the public library. There were several references in the books of Jean Baptiste Vallee. A reference to a Mill and the ownership of it in particular. You might want to check it out. I even wondered if our Alley family could be a derivative of the name. They were in what is now St. Francoise Missouri before 1800. They also had a Mill on Big River. Given Names of John (the father), Thomas and William the sons.
