I am researching a Louis Kerlegand who appears in Louisiana on the 1810 census. He is married and has two children under 10 (a son and a daughter). The son is on the 1850 census and says he was born in Missouri. Then on the 1880 ensus he says he was born in Missouri, his father in France and his mother in Kentucky.
I found a marriage for a Louis Kerlegan in Nelson Co. Kentucky to a Mary Holmes in 1806. Later on the family started using Dekerlegand. On the 1850 slave census Louis is listed as de Kerlegan. There has to be a connection between these families.
