Liz, thank you so much for keeping in touch with me even though y'all are having a rough time right now. I will pray for your husband. I hope he recovers quickly. I do have a couple more questions. I can't believe I didn't ask them before. Do y'all know if Georgia's father was James Lewallen?
Or if she had a brother named John Henry? I know it has to be because of a letter I have from a lawyer in Portsmouth concerning Ella's inheritance. The boys would have been old enough not to need a guardian appointed.
Ella was 18.(Which turned out to be old enough to handle her own business. My Great Grandfather (John Henry Lewallen) had applied for administration to sell his father's land after he died. All of the heirs had to sign over their part of the land in order for it to be sold. It looks like the grandchildren of James received a share if their Lewallen parent was deceased. That would be Ella and Bessie Wilson. (I think)
Gordon is on the 1900 census with the family in Kentucky but not on the 1910 census in Ohio.
You probably know that the 1890 census was burned up and I think that one has a lot of answers for me.
I have a copy of Ella's application for a social security card. It has her mothers name as Georgia Lewallen and it has Ella's signature.
Thanks again for helping me. I'm so excited! I have been working on this for months.
