Hi Ken, I read your post with great interest. I'm as far back in my Vail research as Nehemiah Veal/Vail dob thought to be 1719 but unsourced. My line from Nehemiah is John, Elihu, Edward Thomas Sr., Percy Eugene, Percy Edward, Raymond Edward, me (Carol Vail Hutchison). I have been unable to find Nehemiah's siblings or parents. He married Mary Archer and had children: Daniel, John, Abigail, Freelove, and Elihu. Mary may be from the Archer family of Fordham Manor in Westchester Co. NY. Most of the info I have is from the Alfred Vail Index Reference on Heritage Quest. I noticed your "Vaill" spelling which I understand is typical of descendents of Daniel Vail who moved to Connecticut after the lost of many children. Do you have a complete list of his children including middle names? Nehemiah went by "Miah", but I'm wondering if it might possibly be a middle name not a first name. Nehemiah and Mary were said to be from Westchester Co., but raised their family in Dutchess Co. After Nehemiah married a second time his descendents reported he left for Canada after an argument with Daniel. Others say he died in "The Oblong" in Dutchess Co. All of my line from John down to my father, Raymond were born in Dutchess Co. Can you help me?
Nehemiah is recorded on the 1790 census of Clinton, Dutchess Co. as "Veal" as were a few others, but still others were recorded as "Vail". I'm wondering if the different spellings has any significance.
