Hi Kathy,
If he was of the Episcopal faith (which is most likely during the time frame that you are mentioning), he may be buried at Yeocomico Episcopal Church located near Kinsale. That church was built in 1706 and is one of the oldest churches in Virginia. Many of the Butlers are buried at Carmel United Methodist Church, also near Kinsale (originally known as the Methodist Episcopal Church), but that church was not founded until 1853, so we can be fairly sure he is not there. The oldest current Methodist church in the county is Ebenezer Methodist Church, which is also not too far from Kinsale, but it was not founded until 1839. However, there was an earlier Methodist Church named Bethel which was situated on land at Nomini Hall that no longer exists, and I have no idea as to whether there was a burial ground for this church. It was replaced with Ebenezer. I believe your best bet is probably Yeocomico. I will try to check next time I go by there to see if I find him. Do you happen to know his spouse's name?
