I see in your message a number of names that appear in my research so far - I wonder if there's a connection?
I've run into a road block with finding out the parents, or any ancestors, of my great, great grandfather Robert C. Lee. In an 1854 letter to Robert C. Lee it tells him about the death of his sister Elizabeth and mentions a brother, but no name for that brother is mentioned....other than that letter, I know nothing else Robert C. Lee’s siblings and I know nothing about his parents.
Here’s what I know…
Robert C. Lee was born in “East” Virginia (I don’t know what county) on 12/15/ 1815; he died on 11/24/1892 and is buried in Illinois. Robert married Melvina Mefford on May 31, 1840 in Brown County, OH – but I think they lived in Maysville, Kentucky when they got married. Robert C. Lee & Melvina (Mefford) Lee had ten children – seven girls, three boys, between 1841 and 1866 – all of the children were born in Maysville, Kentucky, Mason County – or, if not in Maysville then probably in Mason County, Kentucky.
I saw several names in your text that mention names that tie into the names of these offspring....
Here’s their childrens names (I have birthdays for several if needed)
1) Nancy Anne Lee – married Callender Reuben Wood in IL
2) Harriet E. Lee
3) Elizabeth Taylor Lee – married Joseph Evertt Hornor in IL
4) Sarah Ann Lee – married Stephen Hathaway Passwaters in IL
5) James Henry Lee – married Mary Frances Hougham in IL
6) Julia Cordelia Lee – married John H. Sackett in IL
7) Josephine Lee – married William Franklin Passwaters in IL
8) Robert Taylor Lee – married Allie L. Mary?
9) George Thomas Mefford Lee – married Emma Lene Brown in IN
10) Mary Virginia Lee
Robert C. & Melvina moved to McLean County, Illinois in the 1850’s. Robert & Melvina (Mefford) Lee are buried in Shiloh Cemetery near Heyworth, Illinois. I descend through their first son and fourth child was James Henry Lee. James Henry Lee was born on July 2, 1849 and died December 17, 1891. James Henry Lee, my great grandfather, married Mary Frances Hougham on November 11, 1875. James was nicknamed “Bud”. They had six children – four girls, two boys. James Henry & Mary Frances are buried in Shiloh Cemetery also.
Their youngest child and second son was James Elmer Lee – he was born on September 20, 1888 and died July 16, 1933. James Elmer Lee, my grandfather, married Mary Agnes “Mayme” Gleason in 1910 in Bloomington, Illinois. My mother was a Lee – I was raised in west central Illinois and now live in the Boston, Mass. area
If you know anything about who Robert C. Lee's parents or ancestors are - or if know any clues - please touch base with me.
