Have you check The Stonewall Cemetery in Winchester, Frederick Co. VA, next to the main cemetery Mt. Hebron.

Seem to remember the story, also written about in book by Laura Hale, there was a little military "event" which took place in the front yard of my great-great-grandfather Thomas Buck McKay, his house near "Front Royal Turnpike". His house was used as Military Hospital for the wounded. The death were buried in the side yard. Later they were dug up and reburied I BELIEVE in Winchester, Stone Wall Cemetery.

Might e-mail my cousin Michael L. McKay lives in Winchester, VA. Also has a web site concerning the family of Robert Mackay Sr.

Would be your ancestor was just buried there he was shot. A lot of small military actions in that part of the Valley during the Civil War.
