Hi, My name is Sheila ALLEN-Winterberg. I am wondering if there is anyone left in Tazewell that descends from my line of Allen's. We are going to have a reunion in Scott Co. VA at the Natural Tunnel State Part on July 14th.
My 4x great granfather John Allen was married to Eleanor ? and had a son Robert. In 1826 John married Esther Jane Neal in Tazewell and abt 1833/34 after his son Robert died he moved to Fort Blackmore/Scott Co. VA.
Roberts widow (Elizabeth " Betsy " Keskey Allen) remained in Tazewell and married William G. Davidson and had two children by him. Matilda and Henry Patton Davidson. They later went to Mercer Co. VA, but after the death of Wm. Betsy moved back to Tazewell to live with her and Robert Allen's son James Allen.
The children of Robert and Betsy were:
James Allen who married Caroline Helms
William Allen who married Sarah Oney
John Allen who I don't know if he ever married. He was unmarried in the 1870 census, and I have court records where James was collecting debts that were owed to him but not because of death because in two of the cases it says he removed out of the state.. but I don't know where.
There were three girls listed in the house in 1830 but I have only been able to get the names of two. One a daughter Sarah who must have died during childbirth or shortly after as her child Mary Allen was living with Betsy and 2nd husband in 1850, and a court case where her guardian James Allen sold her share of her inheiratance of Robert's land to his brother John, mentions her as decendant of Sarah Allen. Also I assume Sarah was unmarried as the childs last name was Allen.
The other was Julia Allen who married John W. Lambert and they moved to Yellow Creek, Linn Co. MO. They had one son Isaac Robert Lambert then Julia died in 1869 and is buried in Linn Co. MO
Grandchildren of Robert & Betsy who stayed in Tazewell by their son William and wife Sarah Oney were:
Amanda Allen who married Tazewell Henkle,
Rachel Allen m. ? and Sarah Allen m. ?
By son James Allen who married Caroline Helms:
Robert Allen m. ?
William A. Allen m. Nancy J. Cooley
Nancy Allen m. ? Hickman
Mary Allen m. William Thompson Buchanan
Caroline Allen m. Harold Thompson Buchanan
Children of William A. Allen and Nancy J. Cooley were:
Martha Caroline m. Robert Harold Mathews
Casper Eldridge AKA " Wiggins" m. Dorthy Scott
Robert M. m. ?
James E. m. Jesse E. ? had a daughter Josephine
Julia
Virgina Pierce " Jennie" m. James Minick Hawthorne ( moved to McDowell WV)
Harvey M. m. ?
