Mrs. Jane Tomlinson, widow of Col. Benjamin Tomlinson, was born before 1755, and died 12 Sep 1820, Lunenburg Co., VA. She made deeds of trust to Baxter Ragsdale and Francis Smith 12 July 1810, the same day that her son Harris and his wife Winifred (Crowder) made deeds of gift to their children. (Lunenburg DB 22, 94A) On 7 Jan 1803 Jean Tomlinson swore she was well acquainted with Charles, Henry, Nevil, Benjamin and Jesse Gee as brothers, and the deceased James, William and John Gee and Elizabeth Bonner and Penelope Heath as their brothers and sisters. Her affidavit accompanied a power of attorney from brothers Charles Gee, Nevil Gee, Henry Gee and Benjamin Gee of Lunenburg Co., VA, and for the heirs and legatees of dec'd brothers William Gee and James Gee and sisters Elizabeth Bonner and Penelope Heath, all representatives and legatees of John Gee, late of South Carolina, authorizing brother Jesse Gee of Lunenburg to settle the estate. (Lunenburg Co., VA DB 19, 130) The 1780 will of John Gee of Camden District, SC, named Bridget Gee Tomlinson and Navil Gee Tomlinson, the two youngest children of Rebecca Tomlinson; the alternate legatee was Ethel Heath. Bridget, Navil and Ethel must have been dead by 1803, when the brothers and sisters would have become heirs, or the brothers were trying to break the will. Was Rebecca the widow of William or James Gee, with a subsequent marriage to a Tomlinson? (Lunenburg Co., VA DB 16, 218; 30, 427) A Charles Gee of Halifax, NC, died by 7 Dec 1810; one of his heirs was Robert Tatem, deceased, of Sussex Co., VA. Nathaniel Dobie, Tatem's executor, filed a power of attorney for his son, William Dobie, to recover from the Gee estate all due him as Tatem's executor; witnesses Peter Tatum, Nathaniel Dobie, Jr. (Sussex Co., VA DB L, 17) Robert Tatum, son of Robert Tatum, deceased, of Prince George Co., VA, had married Amy Gee, daughter of Charles Gee; surety, David Lessenberry. (Sussex Co.. VA, Marriages) Nathaniel Dobie of Sussex 6 Nov 1823 granted Charles Gee, Jr. "late of Prince George Co., VA, but now in Tennessee," power to sell or rent 228 acres in the western district of Tennesssee, warrant 39; witnesses Joseph Mason, William Harrison, Nathaniel Dobie, Jr. (Sussex DB O, 62) Who were the parents of Bridget Gee Tomlinson and Navil Gee Tomlinson?
