I think you might be related to some people that I have been researching for years as the names are sounding familiar the more I think about them. Off the top of my head I think Edward Goodrich (someone that a Richard Bird bought some land from) is related (married into) the Cocke family and the name Hamlin really rings a bell!
I will look through my genealogy mess (luckily a related Bird family member is kind enough to help me get my confusion about the name repitition sorted out! God bless him!!!) and see what I have and I will get back to you. If this is the case then Henrico as well as Surry would be one of the places you would want to investigate.
The reason I like the Roanoke Public Library so much is that they have the Virginia Room upstairs from the regular part of the library. In the Va. Room they collect each and every thing concerning Va. (and other states also!). They really have an extensive information database that really rivals the Public Library in Richmond (or wherever the other one was). I found more info there than I did any other place. And they do have the Quaker books too. Parish Registers, you can almost name it and they have it. So I do hope you decide to visit there on your trip.
Talk to you again soon.
Margie Byrd
