Thanks for you quick reply, but the William Thomas I am looking for was b. c. 1660s in IOW Co., and wrote his will 12 Dec 1711. Boddie says he was the s/o Philip Thomas. Wm. married Elizabeth Hill, d/o Nicholas and Elizabeth Bennett Hill, prob. sometimes in the 1680s in IOW. They lived in the Upper Parish in Lawne's Creek District, very near the Surry Co., border, and probably had land there as he is ocassionally found in the Surry Co. records. There was an older Wm. Thomas in Surry Co., served as Burgess in 1652; and a Wm. Thomas from Nansemond served in 1655-56 and is possibly the same one. The Wm. Thomas b. 1660s, is also said to be from Surry in 1696 when he was deeded 50 acs. by Wm. Prosser, which Thomas and wife Elizabeth sold in 1702. (Surry Co. DB:252)There's a little more, but his children were.
i. Barnaby, moved to Bertie Co., NC; m. Sarah Cotton
ii.Eliz. m. 1). John Boddie; 2). Col. John Dawson; d. Bertie Co.
iv. Philip; d. before 16 Feb 1749, Bertie Co; m. Anne Cotton
v. Priscilla; d. bef. 1711; m. Humphrey Marshall (my line).
vi. William; d. NC
THe fact that he named a son Philip is probably why Boddie puts Wm. as son of a Philip Thomas who d. in IOW 1702/2 and left a will naming a son William.
My problem is this: there are no records I can find that Priscilla was d/o this William Thomas m. to Elizabeth Hill, although most researchers put her as a daughter. The William Thomas from Surry was, at one point anyway, m. to a Priscilla, prob. Priscilla Browne, but I can find nothing else on his line, and he apparently left no will. SO, I was trying to find the line of William Thomas of Surry Co.
I am sorry that I can't be of any help to you, as my Thomas name dies out with Priscilla Thomas Marshall, and it seems that most, anyway, of her "siblings" moved to Bertie Co., NC
