Barbara,
The courthouse has bound photostats of the original records as well as the original originals. (better to work with the photostats but if an image is too dim you can check the original with care.)

The library in town has a very limited collection of books but one valuable one on old houses of surry.

between the two on the same street is the Surry House restaurant which has very good crab cakes and peanut soup. they also have motel rooms ($55.00 as I remember for a single) All three are within 1000 feet of each other. once you park your car you can walk for the rest of your visit.

very small town with not much to do except study the records, but it is just a short way to the ferry to James town and Willaimsburg so it makes a nice trip.
