Eleanor,

I looked at early Prince George County records and there was an Arthur Leath (your man) and a Peter Leath that patented lands adjacent each other in 1722.

Arthur moved on and Died in Nottoway Parish but Peter Leath remained nears current petersburg and his children are recorded in the Bath Parish register.

I looked for clues to whom their father was but it seemed to me that evidence was lacking. Their is mention of a Thomas Leak in thw 1710-1713 county records but nothing to say he was the father.

There is another Peter Leath in Surry County records with a will about 1737, but I cannot be sure that he is closely connected.

If the situation is similar to many VA families there may have been a Leath family near Jamestown whoes grangsons spread out across the southside of VA
