Forgot to tell you results of Surry CH search. Augustus, Charlie, Luther Walden (my father,Samuel's, brothers petitioned the court for a race change from free men of color to white. It originally was filed 9/1905 and was not acted upon until 3/1926.There in the body of this legal instrument was the names of my great grandparents listed as Joseph J. and Saloma M. Walden. In 1970 census I found a Joseph and Margaret with the 3 sons previously listed. They were listed as mulatto race there.
