I don't know if I can be of any help or not, but I have a little on James S. Petty (c.1806-1885) and Charles S. Petty. In 1839 the Stafford County court granted James a business license. I don't know where that business was located.
In 1840 a business license was granted to "Messrs. Stone and Petty." I don't know the given names of either of these men, but a notation in the records states that the business was on Potomac Run.
In 1841 the court granted Charles S. Petty (c.1818-after 1870) a business license. In the 1860 census he was listed as a tailor.
I don't know if James and Charles were brothers or father and son. The approximate birth years were taken from the census records and these can be off by as much as 1 to 10 years. I also found Charles Petty listed in the militia records from 1840-1842. In 1840 he was a 1st lieutenant who took the place of Josiah F. Bayly. Since Josiah lived in the north end of the county, Charles may have done so as well. In 1841 Charles made captain, but he resigned that rank the following year.
I didn't know what James' middle name was and I thank you for that. I wonder if Charles' middle name was the same? I also didn't know who James married.
I've not come across any of the other names on your list. I'm a historian in Stafford and my knowledge is usually limited to just this county. Do you happen to know who James Petty's parents were?
I wish I could do more for you, but that's all I have.
